Melissa Counts, MSW, LISW

I began my journey in the mental health field as a social worker in 2014, initially focusing on crisis work with survivors of sexual trauma, domestic violence, child abuse, human trafficking, and grief/loss. My earlier experiences also include college counseling, where I supported young adults in transition to adulthood, navigating relationships, and managing academic stress. More recently, I have found fulfillment in working with first responders and helping professionals to achieve a healthy work/life balance.

My professional development includes EMDR certification, mindfulness practices for grounding strategies, and a deepening understanding of self-awareness through the Internal Family Systems lens. I am particularly interested in Polyvagal Theory, which helps in understanding nervous system responses, whether dealing with hypervigilance or shutdown. I also emphasize the importance of self-care practices to enhance both physical and mental well-being.

Personally, I love spending time with my family and going on new adventures. I find joy in swimming, hiking, gardening and grounding myself in nature. My favorite moments of peace are sitting in nature with a good book and a cup of coffee.
